Katie Sullivan: Government can’t serve the American people if they don’t speak the same language

Katie Sullivan, former Acting Assistant Attorney General of the Department of Justice, says the biggest surprise from her time working on Capitol Hill was seeing how the federal government spends a majority of its time "doling out money.” Sullivan said she also struggled to understand the way federal employees spoke in government acronyms. “How can we be serving the American people when we don’t even speak the language that they speak?” Sullivan asks.

“That means that if you want to get a grant or put a comment into a regulation, you’ve got to be able to read through what is really a foreign language.”
