'A perfect match': Japanese chocolatier conquers Belgium

Yasushi Sasaki moved from Japan to Belgium at the age of 19, with no clue what he would do with his life.

Now, the 52-year-old has been named the best chocolatier in Brussels for 2024 by the prestigious French gastronomic guide Gault&Millau.

"Chocolate?

It's my life," he says, "from the moment I chose the profession, it became my whole life".

Dubbed a "flavour wizard" by Gault&Millau, Sasaki marries the culinary traditions of Japan and Belgium in his chocolate creations, sourcing and using ingredients like matcha tea, yuzu and red beans.
