Miami condo collapse underscores urgency to maintain Hawaii's concrete condos

This was the first major collapse of a building in the United States that wasn’t caused by an explosion or terrorist attack, but structural damage to the building and its concrete would have been evident long before such a catastrophic event, said Steve Baldridge, president of Honolulu-based Baldridge and Associates Structural Engineers, or BASE, who also does work in Florida.
