Nelson Resources Ltd (ASX:NES) has unveiled initial high-grade shallow gold results from exploration at its Socrates Project with the broader Woodline Project in WA, demonstrating the asset’s growth potential. Currently, reverse circulation (RC) drilling is underway at the Socrates asset, targeting infill and extensions to the north and south of previous significant drilling results. Results from the first six drill holes returned a high-grade gold intersection of 5 metres at 4.33 g/t gold from 47 metres, including 2 metres at 9.13 g/t from 49 metres, and identified gold anomalism to the north, while further RC and diamond drilling continues to target the mineral system extensions to the south. Socrates is the northernmost gold project within Nelson’s Woodline Project, which lies on the boundary of the Albany Fraser Oregon and the Norseman-Wiluna Greenstone belt in Western Australia. Work reveals new targets Nelson Resources executive director and CEO Adam Schofield said the company was very pleased with initial RC results from its current drilling program at Socrates. “The drilling program is designed to test the continuity of the gold-bearing system and the Northern plunge of the structure. What is most pleasing is the 5 metres at 4.33 g/t gold from 47 metres, including 2 metres at 9.13 g/t from 49 metres intersection. “This identifies high-grade gold at a shallower depth than anticipated and further east than expected. This has positive ramifications for the company’s understanding of the gold-bearing system at Socrates and opens up a number of new drill target locations. “With the current drilling program, the company is confident it will be able to begin delineating a gold resource at Socrates towards the end of the year.” Initial drilling results Ultimately, Nelson’s latest exploration campaign will explore Socrates’ gold potential in all directions. Results from 523 metres of RC drilling have been reported to date. Following a drilling and a geophysical program undertaken in 2020, the gold explorer is conducting RC and diamond drilling to test two parallel structures to Socrates’ east and west. One of the initial holes has already delivered a high-grade gold result, uncovering as much as 9.13 g/t gold over a two-metre intersection. Ultimately, Nelson believes this intersection holds promise because it confirms the likely continuity of the Socrates mineralisation over a strike length of more than 350 metres. Here, the mineralisation is open at depth and down plunge. As a result, the company is undertaking diamond drilling on-section and at depth below the drill hole where the result was uncovered. In addition, a fence of five RC holes, drilled to Socrates’ north, targeted a structural plunge, which has also successfully intersected anomalous gold mineralisation and alteration at a shallower depth than anticipated. These holes are now being followed up, with extensions to the RC holes and further reverse circulation and/or diamond tails designed to intersect the gold system at depth. Meanwhile, drilling fences to the south will also kick off shortly. It’s hoped this activity will identify the location of a southern extension to the existing Socrates gold system below shallow cover. Exploration continues as Nelson works to further unlock Socrates gold potential, while geophysical surveys are planned to the west to better define future drill targets. Looking ahead, Nelson also hopes to conduct surveying, exploration and fieldwork across Woodline’s other projects in 2021.
