US stocks close mixed as market weighs lower default risk

US stocks ended in a mixed territory after a volatile session as investors weighed the risk of a potential debt default after the White House deal with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.2%, whilst the S&P 500 remained almost flat, and the Nasdaq climbed 0.3%.
