McDonald’s reported better-than-expected sales in the third quarter, as popular promotions brought in customers despite higher U.S. prices. The Chicago burger giant said its global same-store sales rose 8.8% in the July-September period. That was ahead of Wall Street’s forecast. McDonald’s said it raised prices on certain menu items in the U.S. But it also drew customers with promotions like a 50-cent double cheeseburger on National Cheeseburger Day in September. In the United Kingdom, the company offered discounts throughout August, including 60% off Big Macs and Chicken McNuggets. McDonald’s revenue rose rose 14% to $6.69 billion, also beating Wall Street's forecast.
