Europe’s farmers are angry, and staging their biggest protests in half a century. Far right groups are egging them on, and hoping to ride their anger to new success in European Parliament elections in June. The farmers are angry about low incomes and ever-tighter regulations meant to fight climate change. The European Union is in the forefront of global efforts to curb emissions. While farmers are hurt by climate change they’re also struggling to adapt to the new rules. Their protests are increasingly violent, and are pushing governments to scale back environmental ambitions and grant new aid to farmers instead.
