Centre, Manipur rebel outfit sign peace pact

Zeliangrong United Front (Zuf) signed a ceasefire agreement with the Central and State Governments of Manipur in New Delhi on Tuesday. The agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister N Biren Singh. The MHA statement said that “as a significant boost to peace process in Manipur, the Government of India and the Government of Manipur signed a cessation of operation agreement with Zuf an insurgent group of Manipur.” The agreement also states that the Centre has signed several agreements to end insurgency and boost development in the Northeast as per the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and under the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah representatives of the armed group agreed to abjure violence and join the peaceful democratic process as established by law of the land.
