President advises finance minister to consider Bihar aid bill

President Draupadi Murmu recommends bill for special financial assistance to Bihar to be considered by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The bill, introduced by RJD lawmaker AD Singh, addresses the demand for 'special status' by both RJD and JD(U) due to Bihar's revenue loss after bifurcation. The Centre has previously denied special category status to any state, but Bihar's backwardness and the President's recommendation offer new hope. In 2018, the Centre agreed to provide special assistance to Andhra Pradesh to compensate for the additional central share.
