Gujarat high court upholds life term for ex-IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt

The Gujarat High Court upheld the life imprisonment of former IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt and retired constable Pravinsinh Zala on Tuesday, in connection with a death in custody that occurred in Jamjodhpur town in 1990. The decision also affirmed the convictions of five other policemen involved in the case. Bhatt is concurrently facing charges related to allegedly fabricating evidence against PM Modi and others in connection with the 2002 Godhra train burning incident. The High Court's ruling rejected Bhatt's appeal and revoked the bail of the other convicted policemen while upholding their two-year jail term and fine for torture in custody. The case revolves around the death of detainee Prabhudas Vaishnani in October 1990.
