Iraq: Airstrikes leave 60 IS rebels dead

(MENAFN) On Wednesday, Apr. 7 the Iraqi military announced that earlier airstrikes in a mountainous zone in Salahudin province, north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad left an overall of 60 militants of the Islamic State (IS) outfit dead. Yahia Rasoul, spokesperson of the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi forces, stated in a declaration that Iraq's aircraft, in collaboration with the Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS), launched airstrikes on IS hiding places on March 25 in Himreen mountain range, claiming the life of 60 IS militants. The Iraqi security forces, supported by U.S.-led coalition and Iraqi aircraft, conducted the attack on March 9 and went on for 14 days in the Makhmour mountain range in Iraq's northern province of Nineveh, demolishing 120 IS sites and leaving 27 IS rebels dead, stated Rasoul on March 24. March's attack obligated the IS fighters to run away to other hideouts in Himreen Mountain in Salahudin province, added Rasoul.
