New research from the University of East Anglia suggests that the bacteria in the gut may impact the severity of diarrheal illnesses such as cryptosporidiosis. The study found that large animals with fewer varieties of gut bacteria were more severely affected by the disease. Introducing more diverse gut bacteria can improve outcomes and reduce the spread of the disease.
