Ray Fisher Joins ABC’s ‘Women of the Movement’ Limited Series

Ray Fisher has joined ABC’s “Women of the Movement” limited series, TheWrap has learned.

The “Justice League” star will play Gene Mobley, the man who would have been Emmett Till’s stepfather, if not for the teen’s murder. Per the character description: “A devoted partner to Emmett’s mother, Mamie, Gene was considered the love of her life. They later married.”

The six-episode series “Women of the Movement” will center on Till’s mother, Mamie Till-Mobley (played by Adrienne Warren) and her fight to win justice for her son, Emmett Till (Cedric Joe), a 14-year-old who was lynched in the Jim Crow South in 1955.

The show is based on the book “Emmett Till: The Murder That Shocked the World and Propelled the Civil Rights Movement” by Devery S. Anderson.

Marissa Jo Cerar is creator and showrunner on the series, with “The Old Guard’s” Gina Prince-Bythewood set to direct the first episode.

“Women of the Movement,” which also counts Jay-Z and Will Smith as executive producers, was initially developed as an anthology — with a second season potentially focusing on Rosa Parks.

Along with Jay-Z and Smith, Jay Brown, Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith (Roc Nation), and James Lassiter (Overbrook Entertainment) will executive produce alongside Aaron Kaplan and Dana Honor from Kapital Entertainment. The series is produced by Kapital Entertainment.
