Coronavirus cases in India rose past 50,000, the health ministry said on Thursday, with the pace of new infections showing no signs of abating despite a strict weeks-long lockdown in the world's second-most populous country.

His aim is to teach science and maths in a fun way to the kids. Shelendra Kumar said, "I have always focused on hands-on activity with the kids so, in the lockdown period I have got an idea to keep kids connect with science through the materials used at homes. I have also made a group of teachers to reach as many as students I can."

Keeping aside her selfless acts, a pavement dweller in Mumbai stood for eight hours on waterlogged road to warn commuters about a manhole. Kanta Murti Kalan opened the manhole at Tulsi Pipe Road to let out flooded water. "The road was flooded with water; I wanted to help others. I opened the hole to let water out, and in order to avoid any tragedy, I decided to keep standing at the spot. No official came to look into the matter," Kalan said. The flower vendor's tent and savings were washed away in Mumbai's heavy rain. Kalan's sense of social responsibility brought her to spotlight.

On Saturday, Sanjay tweeted that he had tested negative for Covid-19 but would be kept ‘under medical observation’. “Just wanted to assure everyone that I’m doing well. I’m currently under medical observation and the Covid-19 report is negative as well. With the help and care of the excellent doctors, nurses, and staff at Lilavati hospital, I should be home in a day or two. Thank you for your well wishes and blessings. Please stay safe, everyone,” he had written.

Kozhikode crash: Mortal remains of pilot-in-command Deepak Sathe reach Mumbai

Mortal remains of pilot-in-command Deepak Vasanth Sathe reached Mumbai on Sunday afternoon. Mortal remains were kept at the Air India facility near the Terminal 2 of the Chhatrapati Shivaji international airport for some time. Deepak Sathe's wife Sushma and their son were present. Body of the deceased was brought to Mumbai from Kochi. Pilots, crew and ground staff of Air India paid tributes to the late captain. Sathe lost his life with 17 others in Kozhikode plane crash. Mortal remains of co-pilot Akhilesh Kumar were cremated on Sunday. Around 200 Air India Express employees paid tribute to the fallen co-pilot in Delhi. Kumar's mortal remains were taken to his native place in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura. An Air India Express plane overshot the runway on August 7. The aircraft fell into a valley where it split into two pieces. At least 18 people, including two pilots, were killed. There were 190 people onboard the Vande Bharat flight. The flight was bringing back Indians stranded in Dubai due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Independence Day 2020: Security tightened, Armed Forces band wows spectators

Delhi police stepped up security in  and around the capital ahead of the Independence day celebration on August 15. Police were seen checking vehicles in the India gate and Connaught place region. Similar checks are also underway in other regions of the capital. Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Indian Armed Forces (Tri-Service) Band gave a musical performance at the North Block. The Defence Ministry has said that the Independence Day event will be marked by musical performances by the bands from the Army, Navy and the Indian Air Force. 'These performances are intended as gestures of gratitude and appreciation of the nation towards the Corona warriors who have been steadfastly fighting to stop the spread of the Coronavirus in the country even at the risk of their lives,' said the Ministry of Defence in a press statement. Military and Police Bands will also perform in Imphal, Bhopal and Jhansi on August 12. The final performance of the series will be held on August 13 in Lucknow, Faizabad, Shilong, Madurai and Champaran, it stated. Watch the full video for all the details.

In international news, Paris has tightened rules regarding wearing of face masks. The French capital has reportedly made masks mandatory in certain crowded areas for people aged 11 and above. In the neighbouring United Kingdom, Prime Minister Boris Johnson called reopening of schools in September the government's moral responsibility.
