China fetes American veterans of World War II known as 'Flying Tigers' in a bid to improve ties

China honored two American World War II veterans, Mel McMullen and Harry Moyer, as part of efforts to improve strained US-China relations. McMullen and Moyer, members of the Flying Tigers command that aided China in battling Japan, visited Beijing as part of a series of exchanges leading up to a possible meeting between Presidents Joe Biden and Xi Jinping. McMullen praised the Chinese farmers who risked punishment to save the lives of downed American pilots during the war.
