Rhode Island could elect its first Black representative to Congress

Democrat Gabe Amo and Republican Gerry Leonard are competing for Rhode Island's 1st Congressional District seat, with the potential for Rhode Island's first Black representative in Congress or a Republican victory. Amo, the son of Ghanaian and Liberian immigrants, has a background in the Obama and Biden administrations and supports issues such as social security, abortion rights, and climate change legislation. The winner will fill the seat vacated by former Democratic Rep David Cicilline.
