Many likened it to a horror film.
One person wrote that it looked "haunting…but I want to see it so bad." Others were more measured in their reaction.
"The trailer looked surprisingly good?
Which is kinda annoying cause I wanted to hate watch it." The film uses the actors' faces and covers their bodies in computer generated fur as they sing and dance on a larger than life set.
Some online were a bit freaked out by the movie's realism.
The film, helmed by British director Tom Hooper, who won an Oscar for "The King's Speech," and directed the recent Les Miserables, is the first movie adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit stage musical, which opened in 1981 and became one of the longest-running shows on both Broadway and in London.
