Zombies disembark in Venice for film premiere

Six of the living dead pulled up to the Venice Lido's Excelsior Hotel in a water taxi before shuffling on to the jetty to pose for photographs.

The biopic on Lucio Fulci, who died in 1996, uses previously unseen footage to paint a picture of the Italian horror director's life and works.

It is showing in the Venice Classics Documentary category at the festival.

Organisers said Tuesday night's stunt was inspired by a scene in Fulci's 1979 film, "Zombi 2", where police officers boarding an abandoned sailboat in New York Harbor are attacked by a bloodthirsty zombie.
