Reuters reports over half a million homes were left without power across Northern California on Thursday.

Pacific Gas and Electric Co imposed shutoffs as gale-force winds and dry weather posed a critical fire threat.

Neighboring utility Southern California Edison warned more than 173,000 customers could lose power in parts of eight counties.

Among them include Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Ventura counties.
