Boris Johnson is "the most flexible politician of modern times", former deputy prime minister Lord Heseltine has said.

Although he remains a member of the Conservative Party, Lord Heseltine had the party whip withdrawn in May after he said he would vote for the Liberal Democrats in the European parliamentary election.
