Five victorian homes in spokane's west central neighborhood are coming back to life.
The city calls them zombie houses-- they're sitting there-- not really doing anything right now.
Years ago, the houses were moved to make room for a car wash.
But the non-profit that bought them never finished renovating them--- and they sat empty.
Now, those five zombie houses will soon be resurrected as affordable housing our maher kawash is live with what happens next.
Keith kelley is a spokane property manager.
He's been working to get more affordable homes in spokane.
So about a month and a half ago ... He jumped at the chance to buy this duplex ... It's no secret.
Spokane has a housing crisis.
And that's why vacant properties like this ... Are being restored.

This project takes a bit more work than some of his others ... But that doesn't matter to him.
He just wants more housing available in spokane.
00;43;09 "we have a real crisis in our region right now just a lack of inventory ... And strong population growth isn't really helping the cause."10.
This barn style duplex is one of five abandoned properties from the car wash fiasco.
He says it needs about 175 thousand dollars to restore ... But in the end ... Two more families will have an affordable place to live.
Neighbors are thrilled to see work being done on the property.
They say until last month ... The vacant home was always surrounded by homeless people.

06 many people may not consider turning a property like this around because of the many challenges-- but for kelley, it was a no- brainer.
00;44;53"i love west central ... I've lived in the neighborhood for quite a while and i love the old architechture here."06 3 3 kelley says this home should be finished in the spring-- and after that people can find out how to apply to move in.
Habitat for humanity also bought two of the other properties in this neighborhood for 88 thousand.
And they'll become affordable housing as well.
