One dead after officer-involved shooting in Red Bluff

Red Bluff Police Officers said they responded to the Meadow Vista Apartment complex due to reports of an altercation.

Officers contacted a man who fit the given description, he began firing shots at officers.

Out as a disturbance call, quickly turned into a standoff - in the end police killed one man they was armed.

Action news now was on scene wednesday when this all happened in red bluff.

Reporter jafet serrato joins us here with a follow up - jafet where did this take place exactly?

It happened at the meadow vista apartments on vista way.

Its located southwest of town - near south jackson street.

I spoke to neighbors who tell me they're frightened and want security stepped up.

Shell casings, caution tape and dozens of officers investigating a shooting that left one man dead in red bluff.

"i just think its so crazy" heather hoffman was just pulling into the apartment complex when gunfire erupted.

"they showed up and then i heard like hecka shots being fired and ran up to my house."

Officers say when they got there a man started shooting at them.

They returned fire - wounding the suspect.

"they were yelling commands to him and he laid there.

He was still conscious and everything, but he had obviously had suffered a couple of gunshot wounds" (standup:) the shooting took place right next to this playground right here.

If you can zoom in right here into this apartment complex you can see a visible bullet hole, through here from the officer involved shooting.

For nearly an hour and a half - police tried talking the supsect into giving himself up.

"helicopter going over for an hour, yelling at the cops, bright lights everywhere" when officers moved in - the suspect opened fire again "that's disturbing of course" two officers fired back - killing him.

"i personally don't think they needed to shoot him at the end" one man who didn't want to go on camera told me he didnt' think police had to shoot him.

"i think you know a taser or a bean bag something to distract him might have worked" "i would like to see if we can get some kind of security like a neighborhood watch" i did ask red bluff police chief kyle sanders if there is body cam footage of this shooting - he told me yes.

He could not tell me when we're going to see that footage.

Jafet serrato action news now.

This is the second deadly officer involved shooting in tehama county since august.

An outside agency is investigating this - three officers involved in wednesday's shooting are now on paid administrative leave.###
