Corvallis, Lebanon Fire climb for cancer cure after coronavirus delay

After an annual Leukemia-Lymphoma fundraiser in Seattle was postponed, local firefighters did not sit idly by.

Really help.

Some people are being extra cautious about corona virus by cancelling events.

Today was supposed to be the 29th annual leukemia lymphoma stair climber challenge up in seattle....where firefighters gear up and climb 69 floors to raise money and awareness.

But when the corona virus postponed the event... local fire departments did not just sit back.

As kezi 9 news reporter emma jerome shows us... they climbed anyway.

"we told people we were going to climb 69 floors... let's climb 69 floors."

When coronavirus threw a wrench in their plan -- 7 men from lebanon fire district and corvallis fire department did not give up-- sunday morning they climbed the stairwells of reser stadium... 10 stories... 19 flights... and 200 steps... 7 times emma jerome: " and with every step these men tell me that these men had one thing in mind... the mission... the mission to keep up the fight for those who have lost their lives from cancer and those who are still fighting"*na* each person saying they climbed for a different reason "this year's climb is dedicated in the memory of tyler vanpelt" carl neidner: "lily skinner tripp... as i wrote she was the most awesome little girl to put on a princess dress and help mom in the muddy garden she was just a sweet little kid" rialee "doing it for other people so they can get better" that's rialee roth... she is a survivor of stage three hodgkins lymphoma... diagnosed when she was 8 spending her time in ohsu dornbrecher hospital... today rialee is in remission... but she also climbing for people who didn't get better... like kinsley who lost her fight to cancer after being diagnosed when she was just 3 years old "kinsley was a sassy little three year old..

She was a little spitfire."

And at the end of their climb... they said they already have a hope for the future of this event "you know what i would like to see i would like to see this climb be unnecessary 5 years from now" despite coronavirus..
