MSDH conducts COVID-19 tests in Chickasaw County

The state department of health along with members of the mississippi national guard, local law enforcement members and others were here.

Those who were tested were already registered by way of the university of mississippi medical center's website.

'"we're trying to go to locations where maybe have not had as much testing available."

Christy berry says those who were tested were already screened before they arrived.

"they'll be screened before arriving .

And then once they get here , they'll come to our registration table.

We verify that they do have their appointment ."(christy berry-msdh) the patients were then sent to the testing site where a very familiar form of coronavirus test was used.

"its basically like a flu test where they do the swab in your nose and they go through and insert the swab and then send you on your way."

She says the samples are sent to a health departmen lab .

The results are back in three to five days.

Standup.."this entire area is spread out very well according to the state department of health workers in order to practice social distancing."

But its all about finding out who is infected coronavirus.

"we want to make sure we identify the people who are sick with covid .

We want to also be able to do the contact investigations to determine if there is anyone else that may have the virus."

Chickasaw county ema director linda griffin says twenty people were signed up to take the test.
