Need A Neighbor Servicing The Community:

Need.... as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the organizations community one and for evansville came together to create need a neighbor.

We had really two things we were trying to achieve.

To find out where the needs were and what they were and then to find volunteers that would meet those needs.

The idea for need a neighbor came out of asking the question as the pandemic started to embrace our community and we started to figure out what's the best way to help people, what's should we be doing right now in a new and different way to respond to the crisis.

Out of that conversation came an opportunity to basically transform the platform that community one had in their normal work and really turn into a way for neighbors to share a need on a platform and for another neighbor to go and meet that need.

This service based organization has seen volunteers from over 25 churches as they address people's most essential needs.

We felt these were the things that people were most in need of right now because of the stay at home order and social distancing.

So those 6 things are somebody might just need a friendly phone call, or they need a meal delivered to their home or they need groceries or urgent supplies picked up for them.

They needed a prayer or maybe they needed referral to help see if they could find financial assistance with an issue that they had.

And as the pandemic continues to impact the community, both believe there is a lesson to be learned from this experience.

This was just an opportunity to say ok let's not just think that was a nice thing to say, but, let's say that was really like a way to change the situation that we're experiencing.

And there really is a way you can change the world just by loving your neighbor.

It's just a great illustration of how people come together.

We know that there's people in our community and our neighbors who need help.

And we know there's people and neighbors in our community who will help and this is just a mechanism for bringing those people together and it's just been wonderful to see the outpouring of care and love and provision from people for their neighbors who have needs.
