This year.

Tonight... an angola family dealing with the death of their beloved dog....they say saturday night... an indiana police officer shot and killed their dog deacon outside their home without first identifying himself...fox 55's chris mullooly joins us live outside the indiana state police office in fort wayne.chris... what are police telling you about the situation???

Hunter... sergeant brian walker with the indiana state police released a statement to me this afternoon.it says the officer tried 'unsuccessfully to calm the aggressive dog.but the family says their dog wasn't aggressive at all... just barking.i do want to warn those watching at home... some video in this story is considered graphic.

"they shot my dog"this cell phone video is from sandy case....'oh my god'the video is blurred out....we've done that..

So you wouldn't have to see the blood on the case's driveway...from their dog deacon."i've been crying for two days its really heartbreaking"sandy case says their family and a couple friends were enjoying the saturday weather...?nats?a small party that continued into the night.eventually... a neighbor called into police for a noise complaint.case says what happened next caught everyone off guardi heard a shot and i walked out to right here and i said did you jst shoot my dogthe family says the officer came to the house unannounced....and didn't ask the family to keep the pets inside...we didn't really know they were here we just saw a flashlight flashing and he was barking and we heard a gunshot indiana state police sgt brian walker released a statement saying the officer ended up having to use his weapon after unsuccessfully trying to de- escalate the aggressive dog.

He's never been aggressive he barks at anyone that walks up you just say hi hello then he just walks along he does his own thingchristina case was 10 when they got deacon off the side of the road...and says the last two days have been especially hard"i actually have online classes and had a couple exams i missed i just can't do it"the family says they want justice... but not against the officer..

They want this to be a lesson for state police... in order to prevent this from happening again.they run into family situations with family pets and they should take more precautinos the family told me they want to make something very clear... and that's on the response from their facebook post.we've been told there are some who have been making death threats to the police officer... even going as far as naming the officer and putting his address on the facebook comments...which we're told is a wrong address...and the case family says some of the comments coming in are 'down right scary.'they hope just for some answers from police... and more training as a result of this incident.there is also a gofundme link they've set up... which will be added to our story online at wfft- dot-com.reporting live ... chris mullooly... fox 55 news.
