There is no plan to reopen schools.

But as newschannel two's brent kearney reports....some local districts say....that's not an official decision....and they're preparing for either outcome.

.

None "brent kearney, bkearneywktv, brent kearney" "its been about 5 weeks since these hallways were filled with kids here in rome.

And now the decision says they are waiting on a decision from the state on whether or not they can reopen."

Rome superintendent peter blake says the district still remains in limbo on whether or not they will reopen in some form this year.

The governor in his press conference yesterday saying their is no plan for schools to reopen this year.

But no official announcement from the state has been made.

"relative to what the governor is saying we keep on moving forward everyday is if we are going to have a plan to reopen in late may.

But it would be nice for someone to make a decision so we can move on with planning."

Utica city schools superintendent bruce karam says the district will be ready for whatever and whenever the govenor officially makes a decision "when that time comes the utica city school district will be ready.

We have been planning, we have been proactive on this.

We started planning for this back in february.

We have to wait and see what the medical data is showing and i'm sure he will make a good decision based on that data.

Blake says if the state does make the decision to allow them to reopen, it would be a logistical challenge.

"but logistically it would be a challenge.

Making sure we can maintain cleanliness.

Setting that up would be an issue.

But respectively the big hurdle would be that their are probably some parents that wouldn't want their children back in school, so you're going to have to deal with those barriers as well."

Rome superintendent peter blake says his teachers are working with students now to prepare them for next year.

Utica superintendent bruce karam says he has a similar plan "when we have all of our staff back we will look at basically where we left off and what we were able to accomplish through the online learning.

And get the input from our teachers and our principals and see exactly what type of remediation we may need."

Coming up at 6, how both districts are doing with online learning and rome's possible plans for this year's graduation.
