Forecast coming up nursing homes across the country have been hit hard by the covid-19 pandemic.

A number of facilities here in the wabash valley are fighting to keep folks safe.

One of those is the "newton care center" in jasper county, illinois.

News 10 bureau chief gary brian spoke with the center.

He tells us what they're doing to fight the spread of the virus.

Pk} "at the beginning of the month the jasper county health department reported a positive case of covid-19 at the newton care center.

Today that number stands at 26 residents and fifteen employees infected with the virus.

Now i had the chance to speak with folks at the health department as well as the newton care center.

Here's what they're doing to help stop the spread."

Wednesday night residents in jasper county held a prayer for newton care.

Inside the facility's doors...five medical staff fighting the virus joined together to pray for those affected.

Right now the care center says it is setting up a covid-19 center in the facility.

The jasper county health department has also stepped in to make sure all staff and patients have been tested.

The care center released a statement to me last night.

"while we are saddened by the number of positive covid-19 affected, we remain proud of how everyone has pulled together."

The statement says the cases began when a resident came into contact with a person who was not showing symptoms while they were outside the facility.

The jasper county health department says there was a nine day period before they were alerted that the asymptomatic person had tested positive.

This caused the spread.
