It was recently believed that people who recovered from the novel coronavirus COVID-19 would probably not get it again.
But according to Gizmodo, the World Health Organization (WHO) shot a hole in that theory on Friday.
Now, the WHO says there “is currently no evidence” that people who had recovered from COVID-19 have antibodies to protect them from a second infection.
In a statement, the WHO discouraged the use of “immunity passports” or “risk-free certificates” being considered by some governments.
These documents would allow people to travel or go back to work based on the assumption that they are protected against re-infection.
People who assume that they are immune to a second infection because they have received a positive test result may ignore public health advice...[and] therefore increase the risks of continued transmission.
