The state's new effort to connect volunteers with community need reports a successful start
Give yourselves a pat on the back!
State leaders recently put out the call for volunteers to help... and we have answered!!
The new initiative put forth by the governor - californians for all... is a way to connect those who want and are able to volunteer -to assist other during the coronavirus pandemic.
((nat sound from governor)) i talked with the state's chief service officer about the platform.
He tells me in the first week since launching - the response went far beyond what was expected.
"it's really a reflection of the broader spirit of californian's - with so many stepping up to make a difference.
Just this last week over 32,000 california's have signed up."
Those who sign up will receive an email outlining steps to take during the coronavirus pandemic- fryday says right now the key needs are volunteers to help at food banks, those willing to donate blood and people making phone calls to check on neighbors "there's both short and long term needs and while we want people to be connected now...we also realize we're going to have needs for months to come.
"i think this pandemic has shown, is that people are willing and wanting to support eacher other in their communities."
Based on response to the volunteer effort, fryday says it is likely this inititative will continue beyond when the state overcomes the coronavirus crisis.
