Lane County still has stops to make on road to reopening

Lane County Public Health officials gave details on the county's progress toward reopening Thursday, noting that several criteria had a ways to go before they are met.

Of the state total.

While some oregon counties say they're ready to open their doors, lane county says we're not quite there.

Kezi 9 news reporter chris lueneburg is live to tell us about their roadmap to reopening.

Chris?

Matt, renee, there are two major areas that need some work here-- the county wants to see 500 tests daily--- up from an average of just around 150.

They also want to see a continued flattening of the curve working toward a downward trend in cases... they say the rate of new cases is flat- but it isn't enough yet.

Once these criteria are met, the county will make a recommendation to the county commissioners who will make a recommendation to the state-- and they make the final call... even when the county reopens though, officials warn that it won't be the end of various precautions.

"just keeping the numbers down.

I've seen that everyone's been really safe, wearing their masks wearing their gloves, using hand sanitizer.

So i've been really impressed with everything that's been going on in the community the county is already reccommending against large gatherings once the restrictions are lifted-- and reinforcing social distancing and hygeine, even if you're at a business or small gathering.

Some good news here though-- the county is sitting pretty when it comes to personal protective equipment, icu beds and ventilators-- the other criteria they're taking into account here.
