The minnesota governor's fishing opener has already been postponed until next year.

But may 9th will still be the official opening of walleye and northern pike fishing season.... it will just have a different look and set of guidelines this year.

Joins us to explain.xxx the video here behind me is from last year... but it is absolutely what the minnesota department of natural resources does not want to see this year... they would rather see you close to home with social distancing in mind.

Xxx you know lots of things are changing under this covi?19 pandemic and fishing and the fishing opener is no exception to that.

Which announced there are new "close to home" guidelines for anglers this year.

First and foremost?

Stay close to home.

No overnight stays.

Bring all needed supplies with you.

And only go as far as you can travel and return on one tank of gas.

That really is designed to protect particularly those viru?

Vulnerable populations.

And of course?

You should maintain an adequate amount of social distancing.

That's going to be particularly important at boat landings, at docks, at fishing peers or you know if you're fishing along shore.

Make sure that you plan ahead to maybe pick times that won't be as busy so that that social distancing becomes a little bit and sarah says a good way to check if you're maintaining social distancing while fishing is most fishing rods are about six feet in length./// thanks?
