Enforcing Order
Enforcing Order
City Has plan to enforce amended order.

In colbert county.

With today being the second day of the amended, safer at home order, we wanted to know how city leaders and police plan to enforce the order.

Waay 31's sierra phillips has a closer look this morning on how law enforcement plans to keep you safe, while supporting small business.

We'll get to her in a moment.

But first, we start with waay 31's rodneya ross.

Rodneya, how do city leaders plan to help educate others to keep everyone safe?

Huntsville mayor tommy battle told us as the city reopens, he's looking for personal responsibility from all of us.

But there are some steps in place if you visit a business and you feel they're not following the order.

If you find yourself in that situation -- mayor battle says you should leave the business and then contact the city.

The city's legal team will decide if the case should be handled by natural resources or the police department.

Natural resources will handle complaints filed by an employee against their employer while the police department will handle complaints from customers about businesses.

Right now -- mayor battle says the number of complaints has decreased -- but that could change as businesses reopen.

Through the last 8 weeks we have had daily reports through natural resources.

We started off with 10-15 reports or complaints a day.

We have worked down to where we are at 1 or 2 a day.

I expect that to spike up a little bit as we open up especially personal contact places and restaurants.

Mayor battle said the city will follow up on any complaints filed but it's not doing any surprise visits.

If you are concerned about a business possibly violating the order -- mayor battle says you should contact the city at huntsville - a - l - dot - gov.
