Breaking news- Coos County gets phase 1 approval

Governor Kate Brown sent a letter to Coos County, allowing them to reopen in phase 1 Friday, May 15th.

>> thank you, will.

Breaking news.

We have just learned coos county has been approved to reopen with "phase 1 guidelines" in place.

This means, beginning tomorrow, restrictions will be eased for restaurants, salons, gyms and local gatherings... as long as they meet requirements that include social distancing.

However, a specific time on friday wasn't given in the governor's approval letter.

Here is the letter sent to the coos county board of commissioners.

In the letter governor brown says reopening comes with risks... and the oregon health authority will be closely monitoring the spread of covid-19 as they reopen.

We are working to learn more and will have more updates on our website kezi-dot- com.

We are just five hours away from the governor's press conference, where she is expected to announced more counties that have been approved.

But as you just heard some coos county has already received the green light.

Also already getting approval -- curry and jackson counties in southern oregon.

We've reached out to*lane county officials and are waiting to see if they have been given approval as well.

Jacob, we also learned retail stores are set to reopen tomorrow& even if counties do not.

The governor announced all oregon stores can open to shoppers again tomorrow, as long as they aren't in a mall and they follow state covid-19 health guidelines.

The stores will have to have new safety measures and follow social distancing.

The declaration gives the green light to furniture stores, jewelry stores, boutiques and art galleries, which were closed march 23 by gov.

Brown stay-home order.

It also includes all other standalone shops, from toy stores to book stores to secondhand stores.

Those were never technically ordered to close, but some may have done so.

Stores in outdoor and indoor shopping centers are the exception.

If they don provide essential services, they have to wait for their counties to qualify for reopening as part of oregon three-phase plan.
