Meals on Wheels has launched a new project to help more elders during the pandemic with its senior chat program.

The food drive is thursday at butler toyota of macon on riverside drive from 10 a-m to 2 p-m.

Meals on wheels has launched a new project... to help senior citizens... alone and sheltering in place... during the pandemic.

It's the "senior chat program."

The senior chat program is a new initiative, to address the social isolation experience that elderly people face who are required to shelter in place, due to being at a higher risk for covid-19.

Gregory: susan gregory, executive director for meals on wheels says the program allows senior citizens to talk about anything they would like to talk about.

Gregory: it's designed to reduce depression, loneliness, and more challenges that are faced during quarantine.

Gregory: when covid-10 presented itself, and we were put under a state emergency, we were deemed essential and stepped up to the plate knowing that we are a lifeline for our members.

Senior citizen raynell brown says she enjoys talking to a volunteer that checks up on her 2 to 3 times a week.
