)- CityBus of Greater Lafayette has seen a 90-percent drop in ridership since the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Now the U.S. Department of Transportation is giving the transportation system a grant worth 11.1 million dollars.

More than 11 million dollars in funding.

The money is from the cares act and can be used for covid-19 relief.

Bryce gibson the manager of development at city bus says so far in 20-20 they have seen a decrease in revenue of over 21 percent.

The transit system will use the federal funds to shore up the budget and add extra cleaning measures to their system.

Gibson says the extra funds will allow city bus to continue offering its services.

Bus riders say city bus is vital to their every day lives.

"i go out to the hospital to visit my mom go shopping go to my apartment back to her apartment so it's a great system."- sean kavanag "i'm completly reliant on it, because i don't have a car right now i am going to be working a full time job so it's a major help to everyone in this community."

City bus does plan on offering their full list of routes in the coming weeks.

While they don't have an exact date yet..

Gibson said the earliest they will start offering full services would be on june 1st.
