School districts announce furlough days
The 4J School District discussed furlough days in a meeting Wednesday evening.

Kezi nine news.

The 4j school district is just the latest to consider furloughing their employees... to trim their budget.

And, many employees could actually end up making more.

Kezi nine news reporter kennedy dendy joins us live in eugene to explain how that would work... kennedy.

The 4j school board has just kicked off their meeting to discuss the current school calendar*and to talk about furlough days for teachers.

But this is not just limited to one district..

As many wonder what this could mean for teachers seeking unemployment for those furlough days... sabrina gordon who represents teachers in 4j and bethel says,*yes a teacher*could make more than they would, if they were working full time.

That's because they would lose 20 percent of their pay, taking one day off.

But, they'd then be eligible for the full 600 dollars a week, through the federal cares act.

And, they'd get regular unemployment.

The bethel school district will start their furlough days this week... and as one parent tells me, she's all for it.

"our administrators and our school have really been knocking themselves out.

So if this is the way they can save some money for next year and avoid some of the cuts, we're all for anything that will help prevent their cuts for next year."

Teachers in springfield will take unpaid furlough days every friday -- from now until the end of the year.

And while some are for it... this is not how every parent feels.

Coming up in the six o clock hour, hear from one parent who says she's outraged this would even be asked of teachers during this time... as they go above and beyond for their students.
