A grand opening in the midst of a pandemic

A business in Medford is opening its doors for the first time while the world deals with the coronavirus pandemic.

(take josh key) josh shelton says, "starting a business in the middle of a pandemic, sounds like a daunting task.

But on the corner of genessee and jackson here in medford, ruby's on genessee sees an opportunity."

(topic key) now open for business.

Not something you'd be expecting to see as many businesses are still slow to flip their closed signs around.

While many see the financial impact of the coronavirus as a disadvantage, the owner of ruby's has a different outlook.

(take christian key) christian senf says, "there's always opportunity in change, and there's always, whatever things are in flux new things will rise to the top."

(drop key) and it's not an ill-advised move.

In fact, one local business adviser thinks the right business could really succeed by opening their doors for the first time during this pandemic.

(take marshall key) marshall doak says, "i really think that there's good opportunity here for people that are looking to, to hustle and to build something with t opportunity of establishing relationships with potential clients" (topic key) it was a calculated risk for the owner of ruby's.

He had been planning opening up a ruby's in medford for almost a year and leased the buding back in january.

And while it was nice to have established the ruby brand in ashland, opening one in medford was mixed bag of emotions.

Christian senf says, "i was excited, but as i mentioned, the anxiety about it was pretty overwhelming.

But now that we've settled into our routine, we've been open for about a week now.

Yeah, i am excited."

(take josh key) josh shelton says, "ruby's on genesee continues to encourage people to call ahead for take-out orders so that they can keep both their employees and their customers safe.

In medford, josh shelton, newswatch 12."
