Adult and Teen Challenge talks about the new challenges of facing patient needs in a Covid world

It's just obviously the coronavirus and amicus and all of us in another, including some of our neighbors right here on chattanooga's southside doctor david abbott joining us now david is a guy behind the big center right down the street or in the used to be called teen challenge now it's adult and teen challenge doctor david mcnabb good morning.

Good marriages are you very well serve couple questions right of the bat number one why the name change and number two.

Those who are unfamiliar with what you do adult teen challenge give us th over the name change was something that is what has been in the works of the collector along to jeff.

We've always been a ministry to do adult 18 to 50 and teen challenge was rr umbrella that was our lot, a nationwide organization is a ministry to teenagers many many years ago to drug addiction and so about two and a half years ago the main office gave us up to today will recover nine and so what they want us to do that we at least incorporated adult which is what always been that we have some serious young is a pain, and his oldest 50 some so what we were that specimen almost ministry we had here as is a residential a 12 month facility and taking care of folks up to do whatever to control laboratory addiction maybe usually drug abuse.

Often alcoholism but anything else because you live the kind of life that god intended.

Obviously, since this pandemic has taken over not just our country in the world.

Thus, present its own sort of unique challenges to you since you are a residential ... program only has a chip we had to do a couple months ago.

Oh, we froze all of our intakes already folks coming in of obviously because we are residential.

We stayed open are always up in here day in and da out to our residents up in here but we mostly not taking about you, about two weeks ago we looked at all restrictions are given to us and we did release with the restriction still for new folks to come in, so we are taking you residence.

In essenc the court.

I am happy to hear that.

I'll ask you about a couple of the other restrictions that obviously some of your folks have jobs outside of what they do for you.

How is this contributed to the overall atmosphere at adult ... well, i think it will work pretty much typical.

I think there burials chipping and we understand the situation they were in your we take to have folks rectangular outings in so many cases they can't is with family.

You know were raised with families is like visiting with you this morning and so there's been some restrictions there because they understand the circumstances.

We've had such troopers hear from our staff to our residents.

Everyon else, we understand were here because what's going on but to still it we get stir crazy wome to be social people and when were the only faces we see different text.

It does get old visitor i'll sign three or four years down the road you think you look at this and consider the whole pandemic.

A blessing.

I think we might just for a couple reasons.

One, we found out about technology that we knew that was there first use it, but we found that we could do lots of things that we do th past, which you would think that this particular situation gives against chance to look at how w do what we do and one of the things we are seeing is the got 65 bids you that quite frankly i have not been all fall since we expanded the camp and so we did some researching and we did som buzz, some soul searching and evaluating and so we think our 12 month program down to a four month commitment.

Oh, we were always a 12 month program the different phases and that we broken those phases into three independent programs. so if you make it a commitment come to a daunting challenge to make up a four month commitment to stay with his after their year here on optional bases.

So is suggestively expanded bank more accessible to folks who actuall need and this is been something that is been not down here on chattanooga southside now decades and regularly see folks who graduated from your center and without doubt your lives are certainly a lot a lot less surgery a lot enhanced final question this morning.

Since yo are in and patient recovery center.

A lot of times people think i don't need to go to tha extent, to start my recovery.

You have some help for those folks will we do we do first will give us a call and just a note this last statement was talking to somebody with the residence.

Recovery centers lot of goes with that we are and encouraging a bike is a call and let us know you are listed what you're struggling with.

Maybe you don't have to come for the four months or 12 months, maybe there's things we can help you get through with some counselin and so forth, but so we want a letter by no good just give us call.

We don't want to have tha barrier between us and we are here as a resource to help us.

We did as i've heard you say before many times the longest journey begins with that single step in this case are still doctor david napping so much fo joining us can can you wishes for success in the future next year.
