Good evening kristen, today is the day for graduates at mohawk valley community college!

Due to current government restrictions on large gatherings to prevent the spread of coronavirus, these students will hear their names called virtually.

It began with remarks from college president dr. randall vanwagoner followed by remarks from camille kay-ler, chairwoman of the board of trustees.

-- faculty and special guests sent their good wishes to students in a video, including... senator charles schumer, bob saget from the 90s sitcom, full house, former nickelodeon star drake bell, and wnba champion and hall of famer lisa leslie.

-- mvcc used the social media app, snapchat, to allow all of their gradutes to take a picture with their virtual cap and gowns, to share on any social media platform using the tag #mvcc2020.

Randall vanwagoner: i know this is not the graduation you envisioned when you first enrolled in your first class at mvcc but don't let this pandemic diminish the significance of what you have accomplished you are now a college graduate and nothing can ever take that away from you.

Bob saget: congrats mohawk valley community college you graduated, 2020.

You did it and virtual or not we are there.

Miranda keller: my name is miranda keller.

I am graduating in 2020.

I want to thank my friends and family but most importantly my grandmother who helped me through all of this.

Nearly 800 students graduated today.

This is the new normal.

We're going to continue to see more of these virtual commencement ceremonies this spring.
