We've heard from some government officials on the unrest in minneapolis and the demonstrations here.

Tonight some city council members are sharing their thoughts about what's going on.

Fox 55's jentill neal talked to councilman tom didier and councilwoman michelle chambers.

So jentill what was the conversation like?

Hunter, what's happening is definitely bringing up emotions for the both of them.

Both councilman didier and councilwoman chambers say right now is the time for unity councilwoman michelle chambers and councilman tom didier watched the protests unfold over the weekend seeing police and protesters along the allen county courthouse.> 09:51:14-09:51:31"after the police response that happened, i didn't think it would happen again.

Today is tuesday and they're back out again.

I appreciate that, but what i appreciate is the calmness.

I think there's been calmness now from the protesters as well as our police department.

I think lessons were learned."

The weekend however was very different.

On monday, george floyd's brother asked for peaceful protests in his brother's honor.

Councilman tom didier says doing it peacefully is the way..

Saying it starts at the top from leadership.>09:59:51-10:00:13 "i can tell you this much, it comes down to leadership and the leadership has to show example.

The example has to be made in regards to human dignity.

It really comes down to the ultimate situation of how we treat each other."

Chambers says she's received many emails asking why things were handled the way they were and hopes to have dialogue with the police department.

09:52:22-09:52:40"have they been trained in that?

Is that normal tactics to advance with tear gas.

I have to better educate myself and get a better understanding so i can answer a lot of questions that i'm receiving from our constituents."didier says now that we know the problem..

Everyone has to work toward fixing it.10:01:10-10:01:33"it doesn't make it right to damage and ruin someone else's property.

It doesn't give you the right.

I don't care that you are out there making your point.

Make your point.

I totally agree with you in the aspects of this person should not have died.

Lets fix it."
