The decily green who, partnered with her husband, created an organization that works to help parents navigate those conversations.

Alicia says: "last year emily and her husband mike launched a worshop for parents and educators on how to talk to kids about race in america.

One year later, this conversation couldn't be more appropriate and many parents are looking for answers" emily says: "our boys gave a presentation last spring about martin luther king jr. and they were at that time six and eight" thats how it started.

Emily is white.

Her husband mike, is black.

Their family conversations around the dinner table evolved into conversations with other parents and educators.

Emily says: "what is the age that's appropriate?

The greens began getting questions following their son's presentation.

Emily says: "people would say like can you film at dinner table conversation and so that inspired us to say let's share how this looks for us" that's when they began hosting workshops for churches, organizations and companies around the nation and one conversation lead to the next.

Emily says: "we just wrote an e- book called 'how to talk to kids about riots' because again, we're being pretty enadated with folks interested in knowing how to have these conversations" and those conversations are difficult for many because as emily told me during our conversation today, you can't teach what you don't know.

Emily says: "as parents and educators we if we don't have good context it's hard to have that conversation" alicia says: the greens are continuing to work to provide that context so that conversations about race can continue -- coming up tonight on newswatch 12 at 6, emily shares about their
