Debate on defunding, taking the conversation to a more local level

Nationwide, the debate continues on whether or not to defund police.

News 10 took the conversation to a more local level.

Remains on its pedestal.

Across america... there's a growing debate to defund police.

This struck after the most recent death of george floyd..

And what was considered a life lost..

At the hands of the police.

News 10's jordan kudisch is asking what you think here at home... she's in our newsroom with what people are saying... it's a debate that has two very different sides.

One... urges defunding..

The other says it goes much further than funds i reached out to indiana state police on the issue.

I was told... "at this time they will not comment on the subject."

However..

I was told..

"if" the answer was to defund police..

It could lead to a few different scenarios.

Citizens would have less protection..

Which could result in an uptick in crime.

And at some point..

"martial" law "would" take effect.

The questions remains... if the money doesn't go towards policing where should it be spent?

I spoke with one community member who says "don't" defund.

Provide more "resources" that work.

"we want those people to be trained of when to use force and how to use force so force is not used at the wrong times as it was in the case of george floyd, that it's used in the proper time and we need to have force to protect us ."
