Gyms, malls not included in Phase 4 of reopening

Just days ahead of the tentative start of Phase 4 in New York, the state has announced that gyms, malls and movie theaters will not be included.

News channel 2's caitlin irla joins us live from new hartford with reaction to today's announcement.

Good evening jason.

I'm live in front of a very dark and empty sangertown square mall in new hartford& and according to the governor the inside on the mall is going to stay that way as we enter phase 4.

This is devastating to these businesses, which have been shut down for more than three months.

And - it's also weighing heavy on local gym owners.

Jennifer venezio is the owner of body by design in new york mills.

She says she was hopeful and ready to welcome clients back into her studio soon... 12:33:36;29 12:33:56;10 "we certainly didn't have specific guidelines that were given to us but we had done everything, actually gone above and beyond as far as social distancing parameters, everything needed for proper sanitation, signage, things of that sort and clearly the clients were beyond ready and beyond excited as well."

She says when it comes to the term "gym".... there is a lot of grey area.

12:34:05;18 14:34:34;07 "this is a very boutique group studio, we do not have any pieces of equipment people are not coming in here for anything other than organized classes which can be done either on a small scale, or a larger scale and we were very prepared to do it in a limited capacity so i think it's kind of a bummer that we get roped in with all those big box gyms but we certainly understand that if its for the safety and well being of everyone we're going to follow the guidelines."

Now.... jenn, along with other business owners will have to sit back and wait for it to be their turn to reopen.

But it's too early to know which types of businesses will be included.
