As coronavirus cases spike in marshall county - doctors are gearing up for something they have never experienced before.

Flu season during this coronavirus pandemic.

Waay 31's sophia borrelli spoke with a local doctor about what his practice is doing to get ready.

Sophia looklive: "here at premier family care in guntersville - doctor jess young blood says because the flu and coronavirus have many of the same symptoms, doctors will need to keep that in mind when seeing a patient.

Jess youngblood m.d., owner of premier family care in guntersville and arab: "now that is really made much more complicated when you throw in coronavirus because now could it be a flu case with a negative test that's a false negative or could it be a coronavirus case that could be much more severe.

It does increase the concern a lot" doctor jess youngblood says there are a lot of concerns when it comes to this coming flu season mixed with the coronavirus.

He says they are adding more exam rooms at their location in arab and are in the process of hiring more nurses youngblood told me it's more important than ever to get a flu vaccine.

It will help doctors diagnose and hopefully keep the number of flu patients down to free up room for people sick with coronavirus.

Jess youngblood m.d., owner of premier family care in guntersville and arab: "as a physician when you add flu and coronavirus in the same season, it's going to be difficult to tease out who has what and the testing is not 100 percent.

That's one myth that people think is that if the test shows an answer, that answer is right and that's just not true.

The tests are imperfect."
