Barrel racing event goes on as planned

The Tehama County Fairgrounds is hosting its first event since the stay-at-home order in March.

March... action news now reporter karen alvarez is live in red bluff -- karen, whats the plan to keep these high school barrel racers safe?

Event organizers tell me their taking extra steps to ensure particpants' safety.

This year----the run4love barrel racing at the pauline davis pavillion will look a little different.

Sot(tatum underhill, event producer): we have a great crew to help with all this stuff and make sure and ensure the safety of this barrel race and that it goes on without a hitch and that we don't have n problems with anybody and that everybody abides by these rules and regulations.

Some of those new rules---- particpants will only be allowed one at a time inside the arena, with no crowds.

Signage will be posted reminding people to practice social distance.

Sot(tatum underhill, event producer): at this race in particular we only allow one person in the arena at a time.

There are five at a holding pin and there actually two very large holding pins.

Tehama county public health giving the event the green light--- so long as safety measures are followed.

Sot(tatum underhill, event producer): to get a yes from this, to be able to do it even without spectators has just been amazing.

People have been so supportive.

Underhill says the two day event typically draws in contestants from out of state---but because of the coronavirus--- many of this year's partcipants are local.

Saying that even though this year's event will be a different, it'll still be a memorable one---- sot(tatum underhill): this whole thing has been a crazy new experience for everybody.

We're just grateful to have it.

# reporter: another change---those particpating will be required to sign a waiver form.
