Mandatory Masking Proposal Drafted

We're hearing from health and city officials about a possible mask ordinance for madison county!

The madison county board of health drafted a proposal that would require face coverings to be worn in public places.

While it's just a proposal -- it's the first we've seen in writing about mandatory masking in madison county.

The three-page proposal outlines rules and exceptions for a face covering requirement in madison county but it would have to be signed off on by state health officer scott harris.

However, some local leaders think a statewide mandate would be more effective.

Just last week- governor kay ivey said she doesn't plan on passing a statewide masking order because she doesn't believe it could be enforced.

Huntsville hospital c-e-o david spillers and mayor tommy battle said they think an effective mandate would need to be placed state wide by the governor.

Battle "as a combined group across the state of alabama to reconsider this and to look at it to look and see if we can do this across the state because you keep looking back and no community is an island.

It's unclear when exactly this madison county proposal will go before harris.

City leaders tell us they don't think any face covering order will be put in place until after er the holiday weekend.
