Cooperstown today to address concerning loss of sales tax revenue in otsego county.

News channel 2's caitlin irla joins us live here in the studio to tell us what solution he is proposing.

Senator schumer is calling for immediate financial relief for local governments throughout otsego county.

Today, he stood outside doubleday field in cooperstown.

He says cooperstown is one of the hardest hit communities due to its dependence on tourism.

He was joined by david bliss, chair of the otsego county board of representatives, the mayors of oneonta and cooperstown, and otsego counties treasurer to discuss the county's projected 12 million dollar loss in revenue.

He is pushing for immediate, direct federal aide for state and local governments that have been devastated by the coronavirus.

11:24;20 12:02;22 "this is the most serious economic crisis we have had since the great depression, but there is a solution, the solution is a robust package from the federal government to aid the state, to aid the counties, to aid the cities, to aid the towns, to aid the villages and that money will save us money in the long run because it will keep the economies going, keep people working, keep people paying taxes, and the kind of loss that we fear if this doesn't happen, this recession, as bad as it is could get deeper and even become a depression, will not happen."

In otsego county - sales tax is down about 25 percent.

And bed tax - because there is no tourism right now - is down 70 percent.

Schumer says he is hoping this relief package will come by the end of july.
