Some families in Lowndes County now have food in their pantries during the coronavirus pandemic.

Lowndes county food drive wrapped up just a few hours ago.

Volunteers here at the soccer complex said their mission to serve hundreds of residentsis complete.

"this coronavirus has really impacted a lot of families and we know there are a lot of people out of work."

Andy came out to the hitching lot farmers market for the second lowndes county food drive.

"we did it back in early may, these are the people who did not get served at that point in time."

Hes been outside handing out bags of food and cases of water since the early morning.

(nats) at 12-30 volunteers already served over 500 families with non perishable food items. the executive director of united way of lowndes county...said their goal was to reach 750.

((sot)) "with this one we're trying to get items that they can do multiple meals with."

Renee sanders-executive director, united way of lowndes county 0:42;19-0:48 sanders said the organization's main focus was serving seniors in need.

"you're looking at 16, 20 dollars for a senior to make it through the month.

This is going to help our senior citizens more than anyone else in the community."

As car after car rolled through..and as volunteers packed the residents' trunks..

The number of families they served continued to rise.

"all the community volunteers whether they're from a church or from a youth group they want to serve.

That's what we're about is serving others."

All of the volunteers worked from 9 this morning until all of the food ran out.

They reached their goal of serving over 700 families.
