Chancellor of the university of mississippi medical center sent out a stern warning as coronavirus worsens in the state.

She posted this tweet behind me which says wear a blank mask, wash your hands, it's not a big deal.

It's not political just do it.

Doctor lou ann woodward said the current coronavirus situation is worsening.

And the outlook for hospitals is grim.

The the university of miss.

Medical center sent showing its coronavirus unit last week for the first time, we are actually getting an idea of what it looks like.

Doctors and nurses are taking measures to stay safe with gowns, face shields, gloves and masks to protect themselves.

But what it doesn't show is the emotional toll as health care workers at the state's hospital system struggles.

The medical center is one of the hospitals that faced a bed shortage for coronavirus patients in i-c-u.... let's take a look at the hospitalizations in the magnolia state.

As you can see behind me, the line in the red , there are now 8 more people in the hospital from our report on tuesday.

There are 950 people in the hospital with confirmed coronavirus.

Of which 140 are on ventilators fighting the virus.

That's the blue line at the bottom of your screen.

And that went up by 2 since tuesday.

The availability of hospital beds went down by one according to the state's latest report.

Right now there are only 2- thousand-20 beds available.

Again you might think that's not such a big deal but when you look at mississippi's population of around nearly 3 million people, that's not a lot.

You have to remember all of these beds are not just only for coronavirus patients but also crash and heart attack victims. right now more three thousand people are in the hospital for non-coronavirus related illnesses again 950 people are fighting the virus.
